La Rosa (Sognata)

The origin of this installation, as with the whole series of giant flowers, lies in a dream the artist had many years ago.

Once again using a framework of cladded iron wire, the she has created a huge rose from yards of pure silk voile, painted and worked by hand with the same technique as was used for making flowers for haute couture garments.

Symbolically, this rose represents our heart imprisoned within a cage. Despite this kind of prison, the heart can liberate its emotions and feelings through the two large zips.

This is as though to say that certain constraints eventually always find a way of escape.
